High Protein, Low Calorie Gummies (Vegan and non-vegan)!

Protein-rich and/or low calorie gummies have become such a popular item in the shops, and it makes sense- it helps with volume, filling us up and having a sweet treat at the same time!

The main drawbacks really for my clients have been 1) they're quite costly and 2) there aren’t any vegan/gelatine free options easily available.

I didn’t want to post about these gummies my husband loves (which contain gelatine) until I had a veggie-friendly option too. Thankfully, now I do! Both are quite quick and easy, but the veggie option does take a little longer to make.

Higher protein gummies (with gelatine)

Now, for these gummies, you can either make a higher volume batch that is a little softer or reduce the water volume for less gummies, but a more dense chew- completely up to you!

Ingredients:
  • 1 sachet Aeroplane Jelly Lite jelly crystals

  • 8g gelatine powder

  • 125-195ml fresh boiled water

Method:
  1. In a mixing bowl, add the sachet of jelly crystals and gelatine powder.

  2. Add in your boiling water, and mix vigorously with fork or spoon until all is well dissolved- do this quickly once the water is poured to prevent the gelatine becoming clumpy.

  3. Pour into silicone tray moulds.

  4. Place in fridge for 1 hour to set.

  5. All done- pop out of tray and into an air-tight container, enjoy!

Higher protein gummies (vegan, no gelatine)

These gummies come out as a firm jelly gummy texture, you can adjust the ratios for firmer gummies, however I haven't experimented much with this.

Ingredients
  • 240ml water

  • 20g clear/hydrolysed vegan protein powder dissolved (something like this would work! If using an unflavoured option, you can mix into fruit juice/diet cordials for flavour and liquid volume, rather than using plain water as above)

  • 2 tsp 100% agar agar powder

Method:
  1. Mix water/diet cordial mix and agar agar powder in a bowl (don’t add protein powder yet if using)

  2. Add mixture to pot and stir on a simmer for 5 minutes, ensuring all is completely dissolved.

  3. Mix in protein powder.

  4. Transfer mixture to moulds.

  5. Place in the fridge to set for 1 hour.

  6. All done- pop out of tray and into an air-tight container, enjoy!
